Welcome to Aleš Bravničar’s Miniverse at the Ljubljana Airport

Since yesterday, the passenger terminal at the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport has been graced with an exhibition by Aleš Bravničar, called Miniverse II. It will be on display to departing passengers until 31 October.

The project was developed with the support of Aerodrom Ljubljana, d.d. and in cooperation with Galerija Fotografija, where Bravničar has previously exhibited this series of photographs. This time he has added a few photos and slightly changed the presentation, and put it on display right where the majority of the trips on which the photographs in the exhibition were taken began and ended.

In Miniverse II, the photographer depicts actual places through his lens as miniature models. Galerija Fotografija described them in an accompanying text as a piece of the world which in its vastness extends through unlimited space. If you were to remove the component of depth, you would instantly arrive at a tiny miniature which had little in common with reality. These places would become their own simulacra, products of a synthesis of the actual locations and their virtual miniaturization. Furthermore, the newly-created images would, reminiscent of detailed and carefully constructed models, raise questions about every difference between the real and the imaginary, the true and the false.

At Aerodrom Ljubljana we believe that with Bravničars exhibition we have given the passenger terminal and the experience of travelling new content and new value. Miniverse II entirely fulfils this mission through its content, aesthetic, the quality of the artist and the gallery that represents him. Furthermore, it offers Slovenian and foreign travellers an opportunity to become familiar with Slovenian artistic photography.

The exhibition will be on display until 31 October. After the day of the opening it will be viewable only by passengers travelling from the airport or by prior agreement at tel. +386 (0)4 206 1115 or by e-mail at lea.jarc@lju-airport.si
