Young Olympians put passengers through their paces

At Ljubljana Airport we joined in the European Week of Sport, which took place in Slovenia for the fourth time, as part of our active airport event. Between 23 and 30 September, in collaboration with the Slovenian Olympic Committee, we were reminding passengers and colleagues of the importance of physical activity, and encouraging them to be more active in life. Young Slovenian Olympians handled the preparations, and were able to show passengers in the flesh how to feel better before or during a flight by exercising.

As part of the European Week of Sport, the SOC and Fraport Slovenija, one of the SOC’s gold partners, combined forces to raise passengers’ awareness of the importance of moving. At Ljubljana Airport, which was during that time transformed into an active airport, passengers were encouraged at several points in the terminal to be active while travelling. The Guide to stretching and strengthening exercises, which was drawn up under the aegis of the SOC, was displayed on advertising surfaces, on digital screens and in leaflets. Passengers could use them to improve their physical wellbeing while travelling, either in the terminal or on the aircraft.

Members of Slovenia’s team for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics visited the aiport to kick start active airport event. Passengers waiting for flights to Brussels, Helsinki and Frankfurt were given a live demonstration of stretching and strengthening exercises to use when travelling. Those flying on to other destinations around the world were advised to repeat the exercises every 50 minutes. The passengers were happy to enjoy some active diversion while waiting for their flights, and were particularly enthusiastic about being in the company of likeable young athletes. Their response can be seen in the video below.

A special communications campaign was also prepared for staff of Fraport Slovenija, who are being given a 10-minute work-out during these days to improve their physical wellbeing in the workplace. It includes a combination of stretching and strengthening exercises, with body weight and wall exercisesdesk exercises and chair exercises.

At Fraport Slovenija promoting health in relation to our staff is one of the major strategic objectives in the area of occupational health and safety. We place great emphasis on encouraging the active enjoyment of their free time. Under our annual plan we provide funding for various sports activities, the most popular of which are running and cycling. Company staff ran a total of 792 km and cycled a total of 1,400 km in various sports events in 2017.
