Record number of passengers in July, new flights to Niš

July was a record month for Ljubljana Airport - more than 207,000 passengers travelled through it, what breaks the record from 2008 (a little more than 205,000 passengers). The millionth passenger also departed from Brnik (last year in the middle of August) and in the period from January to July almost 1,070,000 passengers were counted, which is 3.5% more compared to the same period last year. These milestones are additional indications of the traffic growth at Ljubljana Airport in recent years, that also represent record years in airport’s history looking at passenger numbers. Considering this year’s traffic growth, we are most likely to achieve a new record.

On August 1 Air Serbia has broadened the destination network of Ljubljana Airport by adding the route to Niš. Passengers are able to fly to the third biggest Serbian city in the Summer Timetable twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays. The carrier will continue with the service also in the Winter Timetable 2019/2020.

"We are very pleased to be connecting Ljubljana to Niš. Our priority is to offer good service at affordable prices, as well as to make it possible for residents of both countries to fly at best possible conditions. We are certain that better connections to Slovenia will contribute to the strengthening of commercial activities and tourism between our two countries," Duncan Naysmith, Air Serbia's CEO, stated at the occasion.

Zmago Skobir, the Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija welcomed the first Ljubljana-Niš flight with the following words: »In the peak of Summer the traffic growth at Ljubljana Airport is strengthening. After a record July the network is expanded with new flights to the third biggest Serbian city, that will astonish Slovenian visitors with its hospitality, gastronomy and rich history, and on the other hand bring more and more attractive Slovenia and Ljubljana closer to the Serbian travellers.”

We welcomed the first flight from Niš with a water salute on Thursday, August 1, at 13:15. The passengers and flight crew were treated with cake pops before departing on an 1-hour flight. Air Serbia will be operating the service with 144-seats Airbus A319 according with the timetable below.
