The milestone came several weeks earlier than in 2024, reflecting Ljubljana Airport’s ongoing efforts to grow traffic and enhance connectivity, including the launch of five new direct routes this year. To mark the occasion, all passengers on the lucky flight were treated to a sweet surprise, while the millionth traveler received a special gift – two KLM tickets to Amsterdam, along with a photo opportunity with the cabin crew before departure.
"We are delighted to welcome Ljubljana Airport’s 1,000,000th passenger this year on KLM. Since launching our Amsterdam-Ljubljana route in March, we've expanded travel options and flexibility for our customers. With Air France-KLM’s network of 300 destinations, travelers enjoy seamless global connections. We’re pleased to announce this route will continue throughout the winter season, ensuring year-round service," said Razvan Radut, Country Sales Manager Air France and KLM.
"We are happy and proud to have welcomed our millionth passenger earlier than last year, which reflects Ljubljana Airport’s continued growth and the increasing trust of passengers in our services. With a record number of scheduled airlines this summer season, a wide selection of scheduled and charter destinations, and upcoming direct flights to Las Palmas, Manchester, and Barcelona, we expect to successfully serve more than 1.5 million passengers by the end of the year," highlighted Janez Krašnja, Head of Airline Management at Fraport Slovenija.
In addition to Amsterdam, the most popular destinations for Ljubljana Airport passengers through mid-August 2025 were Istanbul, London, Frankfurt, and Zurich. Among charter flights, the most frequent choices were Hurghada, Antalya, Tunisia, Rhodes, and Sharm el-Sheikh.
From January to the end of July, the airport handled more than 870,000 passengers, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. By the end of 2025, Ljubljana Airport expects to serve slightly over 1.5 million passengers.
Winter schedule enriched with three new destinations
The upcoming winter schedule, running from late October 2025 to late March 2026, will feature three new direct routes. airBaltic, which already flies from Ljubljana to Riga, will add flights to Gran Canaria before the autumn school holidays. Low-cost carrier easyJet will expand its London service with flights to Manchester, while from late November, passengers will also be able to fly directly to Barcelona with Spanish airline Vueling.
