“We are very pleased to welcome Vueling among the carriers at Ljubljana Airport. The new route to Barcelona, one of Europe’s most visited and vibrant cities, is an exciting addition to our network. It strengthens our connectivity with Southern Europe and offers attractive flight options for our passengers,” said Dr. Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija.
Barcelona El Prat Airport serves as a key European gateway and is home to Vueling’s extensive network, connecting passengers to over 100 destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The new connection will improve travel options for Slovenian passengers and position Ljubljana Airport as a convenient access point for inbound tourism from Spain.
Vueling is the top carrier at its main base, Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The airline operates a network of around 220 routes, connecting 30 countries. In 2024, Vueling operated more than 223,000 flights and carried 38 million passengers.
Ljubljana Airport adds six new routes to 2025 network expansion
Ljubljana Airport’s flight network is set to expand with a total of six new connections in 2025. In addition to Vueling’s newly announced route to Barcelona, the network includes recently launched services by Eurowings to Düsseldorf, KLM to Amsterdam, as well as upcoming routes by Air Albania to Tirana, easyJet to Manchester, and airBaltic to Las Palmas.
Slovenia leads EU in air connectivity growth with 23% year-on-year increase
Slovenia's air connectivity has grown by 23 percent in 2025, placing the country first among EU member states in terms of year-on-year growth, according to ACI Europe’s Connectivity Report 2025. This achievement is the result of several contributing factors. A key role has been played by the strengthened presence of existing airlines at Ljubljana Airport, as well as the arrival of new carriers. These enhancements are the result of our proactive efforts to attract new airlines and strengthen the network, carried out in close cooperation with the government and the Slovenian Tourist Board. Contributing to this positive trend is also the rising demand for air travel to and from Slovenia.
In July, we served more than 181,000 passengers in public passenger traffic at Ljubljana Airport, which is a good 12 percent more than in July 2024. In the period from January to the end of July, there was a 7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, with more than 870,000 passengers recorded. By the end of the year, around 1.5 million passengers are expected to be handled.
