Ljubljana Airport enters the summer season with an expanded flight network

The summer flight schedule, which will come into effect on 29 March, brings increased frequencies, additional capacities, and new connections to Brnik. A total of 24 airlines will offer passengers 30 direct routes, including a new destination – Edinburgh, Scotland. This signals one of the strongest summer seasons at Ljubljana Airport in recent years.

During the summer season, which will last until the end of October, Ljubljana Airport is upgrading its flight offering and expanding capacity. Passengers will benefit from additional frequencies on many existing routes, a wide selection of charter flights to popular holiday destinations, and two new connections, further improving Slovenia’s connectivity.

On 1 April, a new regular route by low-cost carrier  easyJet  will launch at Brnik – in addition to flights to London Gatwick and Manchester, the airline will offer flights to Edinburgh, Scotland. Two months later,  Wizz Air  will add a connection to Podgorica to its existing flights to Skopje.

Several other airlines are also increasing their presence at Ljubljana Airport for the summer timetable.  KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which has been operating daily flights between Ljubljana and Amsterdam since March 2025, and  Swiss International Air Lines, which flies to Zurich, are introducing morning departures and evening returns. This will further improve connectivity for passengers starting their journeys from Ljubljana Airport.

The Spanish airline  Iberia  will significantly strengthen its seasonal route between Madrid and Ljubljana. Flights will begin in early June and operate twice weekly until the end of September. Low‑cost carrier  Vueling Airlines  will continue flying to Barcelona during the summer schedule.

airBaltic  is introducing an additional weekly frequency on the route to Riga, while increased frequencies have also been announced by  Aegean Airlines  on the Athens route,  Turkish Airlines  to Istanbul,  British Airways  to London Heathrow, and  Wizz Air  to Skopje.  Lufthansa  will also increase aircraft capacity on flights to Frankfurt and Munich, while  Finnair  (Helsinki) and  Transavia  (Paris Orly) will return to Brnik after the winter break.

The airline  flydubai  has temporarily suspended flights on the Dubai–Ljubljana route. According to announcements, flights are expected to resume after April 29.

“The expanded summer flight schedule reflects the continued strengthening of Ljubljana Airport’s connectivity and underlines the confidence of our airline partners in the Slovenian market. With a broad range of destinations, increased frequencies and additional capacity, passengers benefit from improved travel options across Europe and beyond. The introduction of new routes, together with enhanced schedules on existing services, supports Slovenia’s accessibility for business, tourism and international exchange. We appreciate the commitment of our airline partners and remain focused on sustainably developing Ljubljana Airport as a competitive and reliable gateway for the region,”  said  Jürgen Deischl, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, upon announcing the summer timetable.

After finishing 2025 with nearly 1.6 million passengers, representing a 10.6% increase compared to the previous year, Fraport Slovenija expects Ljubljana Airport to continue stable growth in passenger traffic in 2026 and further strengthen its position as the leading airport in the region.

Positive prospects are also reflected in the transition to the winter schedule, as the airline  airBaltic  has announced the introduction of a new route to one of the most popular Canary Islands –  Tenerife. The first flight is scheduled for 30 October 2026, with two flights per week planned in the 2026/2027 winter timetable.

Investments in infrastructure for greater efficiency and safety

Fraport Slovenia continues to advance the development of airport infrastructure.
In the previous year, the construction of the new Taxiway J and the refurbishment of a section of Taxiway A were successfully completed. These measures have further enhanced operational efficiency and ensured adequate manoeuvring capacity for the operation of wide‑body aircraft.

In 2026, the modernisation of the main apron is progressing further. This project is among the more technically demanding infrastructure initiatives, as construction activities are being carried out while maintaining uninterrupted air traffic operations. By autumn, approximately 40,000 m² of apron surface will be renewed, replacing existing asphalt with new asphalt and concrete pavement. In parallel, apron lighting will be upgraded, infrastructure for aircraft ground power units (GPU) will be installed, aircraft parking positions will be reorganised, and the necessary infrastructure for the digital apron project will be completed.
