The new Tenerife service will expand airBaltic’s Canary Islands offering from Ljubljana, complementing its existing flights to Gran Canaria. The route gives passengers another convenient opportunity to travel directly to warmer destinations during the winter months.
The launch of London Luton will further strengthen Ljubljana Airport’s links with the United Kingdom. The route will become easyJet’s fourth destination from Ljubljana, complementing its services to London Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh, which joined the airline’s Ljubljana network in summer 2026. With two London airports now served, passengers will benefit from greater choice and flexibility when travelling to the UK for either leisure or business.
Connections to major European aviation hubs remain a key part of Ljubljana Airport’s winter network. Direct services to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Paris, Warsaw and Zurich provide convenient access to extensive onward connections, opening up a wide range of destinations across Europe and beyond.
Summer marked by record passenger numbers
Ljubljana Airport enters the winter season on the back of an exceptionally strong summer, during which it achieved a new all-time monthly passenger record. In August, 222,958 passengers travelled through the airport, surpassing the previous record of 211,595 passengers set in August 2019.
Strong traffic growth continued into September, which also ranked among the busiest months in the airport’s history, with passenger numbers increasing by 16.6% compared with the same month last year. In the first nine months of 2026, Ljubljana Airport handled 1,426,600 passengers, representing a 15.7% increase compared with the period from January to September 2025.
The record-breaking summer confirms the continued growth of passenger traffic at Ljubljana Airport, supported by an expanding airline network, a broader choice of destinations and Slovenia’s growing appeal as a tourist destination.
From new European routes to a direct transatlantic connection
The expansion of Ljubljana Airport’s route network will gather further momentum with the start of the summer 2027 flight schedule. The most significant announcement is the arrival of United Airlines, which will launch a direct service between Ljubljana and Newark Liberty International Airport in New York on 12 May 2027. This marks a historic milestone, establishing the first scheduled direct connection between Slovenia and the United States.
The summer season will also bring several new European connections. easyJet has announced a highly anticipated route to Berlin, with flights set to commence in April. Meanwhile, TUI will enter the Ljubljana market for the first time, launching services to Brussels on 28 March and Düsseldorf following on 4 May.
Together with its existing and new airline partners, Fraport Slovenija will continue to strengthen Slovenia’s international connectivity and broaden the range of direct destinations available to passengers, while maintaining its focus on a high-quality, efficient and seamless travel experience.
