Passenger traffic at Ljubljana Airport is recording significant growth and is recovering in line with expectations. The year 2025 concluded with 1,591,443 passengers, representing a 10.6% year-on-year increase. The final month of the year, during which 101,803 passengers traveled through Ljubljana Airport, also saw the highest passenger growth compared to 2024, with December recording an 18,7% increase. The busiest months of the year were July and August, when monthly passenger numbers exceeded 180,000.
"The exceptionally successful year of 2025, in which we served nearly 1.6 million passengers, is the result of long-term, systematic efforts to expand our network of destinations and constantly improve the user experience. Numerous reinforcements already announced for 2026 confirm that Ljubljana Airport is becoming an increasingly competitive, attractive, and reliable starting point for air travel, successfully connecting Slovenia to the world and opening doors to new opportunities," emphasized the Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, Dr. Babett Stapel.
Among scheduled flights, passengers most frequently chose established European hubs. The most popular destinations were Istanbul, Frankfurt, Zurich, Amsterdam, and London. Charter flights, which remain an important part of the holiday travel offering, saw passengers most often opting for Hurghada, Antalya, Tunisia, Sharm El Sheikh, and the Greek island of Rhodes.
Positive outlook for the 2026 summer season
Current carrier forecasts for the 2026 summer season are very promising, bringing an expanded range of flights, destinations, and capacities. Later this month, Pegasus Airlines will launch a new connection to Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul, while in April Ljubljana Airport will welcome a new easyJet route to Edinburgh. For June, Wizz Air has announced an additional connection to Podgorica alongside its existing flights to Skopje.
A significant boost is also expected from the Spanish carrier Iberia, which will substantially extend its seasonal connection between Madrid and Ljubljana this year. Flights will begin as early as the start of June and will be available twice weekly through the end of September. Additionally, the low-cost carrier Vueling will continue its flights to Barcelona in the summer schedule.
According to forecasts, several other airlines are expected to strengthen their presence at Ljubljana Airport in 2026. Notably, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which has connected Ljubljana and Amsterdam daily since March 2025, and Swiss International Airlines (Zurich). Both companies will strengthen their connections in the summer schedule with morning departures and evening returns, improving connectivity for passengers starting their journeys at Ljubljana Airport.
airBaltic is introducing an additional weekly frequency on its Riga route, while more frequent flights are announced by Aegean Airlines (Athens), flydubai (Dubai), British Airways (London Heathrow), and Wizz Air (Skopje). Furthermore, Lufthansa will increase aircraft capacity on flights to Frankfurt and Munich.
With all the announced developments, Fraport Slovenija expects to see stable passenger growth in 2026 and further strengthen the role of Ljubljana Airport in the region.
