New direct connection between Ljubljana and Edinburgh takes off

Ljubljana Airport has expanded its route network with a new direct connection, as low-cost airline easyJet has begun operating flights between Ljubljana and Edinburgh. With the addition of Scotland’s vibrant capital to the timetable, travellers can now choose from 30 direct connections departing from Brnik during the summer season.

The first flight to Edinburgh represents an important step in strengthening the airport’s connectivity and regional significance. The launch was marked by a welcoming event for passengers and crew, complete with sweet treats and live bagpipe music that brought a touch of Scotland to the terminal.

easyJet, a long-standing carrier at Ljubljana Airport since 2004 and one of Europe’s most prominent low‑cost airlines, will serve the Ljubljana–Edinburgh route twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The flights will be operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft, which accommodates up to 186 travellers. Tickets are already on sale  on easyJet’s website, with one‑way fares starting at 36 €.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK Country Manager, said: "We are delighted to be celebrating the launch of our inaugural flights between Ljubljana and Edinburgh. We are the only carrier providing a direct and convenient connection to the Scottish capital, which is known for its iconic architecture, rich cultural scene and world‑famous festivals. We’re confident this new link will appeal to both leisure and business travellers. In our 30th year, we remain committed to making travel easy by continuing to offer greater choice and exceptional value across our unrivalled network, and we look forward to welcoming our first customers on board this summer."

Jürgen Deischl, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, emphasised the value of the new service: "We are entering the summer season with one of the strongest route networks Ljubljana Airport has offered in recent years, and today’s launch of the new service to Edinburgh further underlines this positive momentum. Known as the “Athens of the North,” Scotland’s capital stands for culture, knowledge and connectivity — qualities that resonate well with both leisure and business travellers. easyJet has been a valued partner of Ljubljana Airport for many years, and we are pleased to see our cooperation expand with a third destination added to the network. The new route creates attractive travel opportunities, strengthens links between Slovenia and the UK, and further enhances Ljubljana Airport’s appeal as a convenient gateway. We look forward to welcoming even more passengers, supported by a competitive offer that makes Ljubljana Airport an attractive choice for summer travel."

Ljubljana Airport, operated by Fraport Slovenija, is entering a dynamic summer season. Alongside increased frequencies on existing routes, travellers will benefit from a wide variety of charter services to popular holiday spots and a new Wizz Air route to Podgorica. Details about the summer schedule, valid until the end of October, are available  here.

Welcoming the new connection,  Nigel Baker, Chargé d’Affaires at the British Embassy in Ljubljana, added: "The new route between Edinburgh and Ljubljana opens up new opportunities to strengthen ties between the United Kingdom and Slovenia, supporting both economic development and business cooperation. easyJet is an excellent British company, and passengers from Ljubljana can now fly directly to three destinations in the UK – London, Manchester, and Edinburgh. This new connection offers travellers a unique chance to experience Scotland’s culture, history, and landscape, while also making it easier for British visitors to discover the many outstanding destinations across Slovenia."

Meanwhile,  Barbara Uranjek Kozina, CEO of the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, described this as a positive step toward even closer economic cooperation between the two countries: "Every new flight makes the UK feel a little bit closer, but more importantly, it makes doing business that much easier and more convenient. Improved air connectivity plays a key role in how quickly and effectively new partnerships can develop, allowing for more frequent in-person meetings and easier market access. Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole are particularly strong in sectors such as financial services, digital technology, and energy, which creates clear potential for cooperation with Slovenian companies seeking new business partners and investment opportunities. At the Chamber, we are delighted that Slovenian exports to the UK have more than doubled since 2019, and we recognize this new flight connection as a positive step toward further strengthening economic ties between our two countries."
