New in-ground electric Ground Power Unit for aircraft

In July 2026, Ljubljana Airport started using a new in-ground electric Ground Power Unit (GPU), enabling external electrical power supply for aircraft during their stay on the main airport apron. The new infrastructure, which is part of the European project Fraport Slovenija for e-FUTURE (FS-e-FUTURE), represents an important step towards further electrification of our ground handling services and reducing the environmental impact of airport operations.

The new in-ground unit consists of a ground pit housing the aircraft connection cable and a fixed external unit used to set the power supply parameters. This solution enables efficient and reliable aircraft power supply while also contributing significantly to reducing emissions, noise levels, and energy consumption.

The investment is part of the FS-e-FUTURE project, through which we will establish key infrastructure supporting the electrification and decarbonisation of our ground handling services by the end of 2026. The €2.34 million project is co-financed by the European Union.
