On this occasion, the Managing Director of Fraport Slovenia, Dr. Babett Stapel, said: »After an exceptionally successful year 2025, during which we served almost 1.6 million passengers, Ljubljana Airport is entering the new year with strong momentum. The numerous capacity increases announced for 2026 show that Ljubljana Airport is becoming an increasingly competitive, attractive, and reliable starting point for air travel. One of these is today’s arrival of a new carrier, Pegasus Airlines, which is an important addition for our passengers and at the same time a testament to the attractiveness of the Slovenian market. We are confident that the new route will further strengthen economic and tourism ties between Slovenia and Turkey.«
Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines, commented on the new route: »We are excited to launch new direct flights connecting Istanbul with Ljubljana, as part of our continued expansion across Europe. Ljubljana is a vibrant and increasingly popular destination, and this direct route will make travel between Türkiye and Slovenia more accessible than ever. Pegasus is committed to offering our guests a continually seamless experience onboard our modern fleet. Each new route expands freedom of movement for our passengers while contributing to tourism, trade and social connectivity across the region.«
The new route will be available to passengers three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and will be operated by Pegasus with a 186-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. Tickets are available on the carrier’s website

Positive outlook for the 2026 summer season

A significant boost is also expected from the Spanish carrier Iberia, which will substantially extend its seasonal connection between Madrid and Ljubljana this year. Flights will begin as early as the start of June and will be available twice weekly through the end of September. Additionally, the low-cost carrier Vueling will continue its flights to Barcelona in the summer schedule.
According to forecasts, several other airlines are expected to strengthen their presence at Ljubljana Airport in 2026. Notably, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which has connected Ljubljana and Amsterdam daily since March 2025, and Swiss International Airlines (Zurich). Both companies will strengthen their connections in the summer schedule with morning departures and evening returns, improving connectivity for passengers starting their journeys at Ljubljana Airport.
These enhancements follow an exceptionally successful year in 2025, during which Ljubljana Airport
